iPhone 17 Release Date: What to Expect from Apple’s 2025

iPhone 17 Release Date: What to Expect

Apple plans to unveil its highly anticipated iPhone 17 series in early September 2025, most likely on Tuesday, September 9. The company plans to open pre-orders around September 12 and start in-store sales on September 19. As excitement builds, leaks and reports have given us a detailed glimpse into what the new models might bring.

A New Lineup with a Slim Twist

This year, Apple plans to launch four models: the standard iPhone 17, a new thinner iPhone 17 Air (replacing the “Plus” model), the iPhone 17 Pro, and the top-tier iPhone 17 Pro Max. This shift signals a stronger focus on design variety, with the Air model designed for those who want a bigger screen without the bulk.

Redesigned for the Future

Apple plans to refresh the design of the iPhone 17 lineup. Most models will feature a sleek aluminum and glass body, moving away from the titanium frame seen in previous Pro models, though the Pro Max might retain some premium materials. The Apple logo is reportedly being repositioned slightly lower on the back, and flatter side buttons are expected to improve usability and tactile response.

Perhaps the most striking change is the removal of the visible Face ID notch on the display. Instead, Apple is implementing an under-display Face ID camera for a seamless screen experience. This will be paired with OLED ProMotion displays ranging from 6.1 to 6.9 inches, all running at a smooth 120 Hz refresh rate.

Major Performance Upgrades

Under the hood, all iPhone 17 models will be powered by the new A19 chip. The Pro and Pro Max models will step it up even further with the A19 Pro chip built on a powerful 2-nanometer process, promising efficiency and speed improvements. RAM is also getting a boost – 8 GB for the standard and Air models, while the Pro and Pro Max will come with 12 GB for smoother multitasking and better performance in demanding apps.

Battery life should also see an improvement. The Pro Max may house a 4,800 mAh battery with support for faster 35W wired charging. New battery technology using high-density silicon anode packs could help extend life and improve energy efficiency. Connectivity upgrades will include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, USB-C ports, improved MagSafe, and continued support for global 5G and satellite emergency SOS.

Photography Gets a Power Boost

The camera system is receiving one of its biggest overhauls. The front-facing TrueDepth camera is expected to jump to 24 MP, offering sharper selfies and better low-light performance. On the rear, the standard iPhone 17 and 17 Air models will carry a dual-camera setup with a 48 MP main sensor.

Meanwhile, the Pro and Pro Max will include a triple-lens system featuring three 48 MP sensors, including a telephoto lens and ultra-wide capabilities. Enhanced video features such as multi-cam recording and 4K at 60 fps will likely appeal to mobile content creators.

A Fresh Splash of Color

Apple is also revamping the color options, adding more personality and variety across the lineup. Here’s what we might see:

  • iPhone 17: Black, White, Steel Gray, Green, Purple, and Light Blue
  • iPhone 17 Air: Black, Brighter White, Sky Blue, and Light Gold
  • iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max: Black, White, Natural Gray, Dark Blue, and a bold new Orange/Copper finish.

The color strategy seems clear – lighter, vibrant shades for the standard and Air models, while the Pro versions lean into premium tones with both classic and striking new hues.

Prices

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported in March that Apple will price the upcoming iPhone 17 Air, the replacement for the current Plus model at $899 in the US and £899 in the UK, matching the cost of the iPhone 16 Plus. Despite its sleeker build and possible compromises in battery size, it could be the most budget-friendly option among the new releases.

Whether it’s the new under-display camera, sleek design updates, or enhanced photography and processing power, Apple aims to make the 2025 iPhone launch one of the most exciting in years.

Mark your calendars: Apple plans to officially reveal the iPhone in early September and release the devices just days later. For fans and tech enthusiasts alike, the wait is almost over.
